Peru Trip Updates

While we were in Peru, we worked on 3 Relief Camps that Camino de Vida has started to help the victims. We helped with the fencing, painting and some other construction work of the camps.

Here are some updates/info I received about the work going on in Peru with Camino de Vida's Earthquake Relief:

_____

To give you a better idea, below is an outline of the three camps and
what each camp will include for his residents:

- Asentimiento Humano Nuevo Jersalen : 66 families: approximately 330 people
- Asentimiento Humano Boca de Rio: 150 families: approximately 750 people
- Asentimiento Humano Corporativa Admirante Miguel Grau: 150 families: approximately
750 people.

Each of these camps will include the following:

- Bathroom facilities
- Industrial size kitchen facilities to feed all residents
- Water towers and water filtration systems
- Tents for each family that will include a living space and 2 bedrooms.

Also, in the last few weeks we have had three great churches send teams down from the States to help with construction projects, minister to people, and even hand out some wheelchairs in two of the camps in Pisco.

The camps look great. It’s amazing to see how far we have come. What once was a field where people dumped their trash, is now the beginnings of a thriving community, a place of hope. The last of the tents are being put up today and the cement floors for the dining halls were put in yesterday. We are in the process of leveling out Nuevo Jerusalen (Vista Alegre). The doors of the other two camps are all installed and each of the relief centers have been painted. The first two camps are finished and our third camp Nuevo Jerusalen will be ready by Thursday. We were able to install electricity in the majority of the camp but there are a few areas that are still running off generators. The water systems for the camps have also been tested and are ready for opening day (which was last Thursday).

The camps are now open and receiving government aid. They are supplying medical care and food for the families registered in each of the camps. Starting at the end of the month we will begin doing bi-monthly medical campaigns in the camps. We also will be providing opportunities for the residents to particpate in select classes including, Purpose Driven Life and other family development courses. We are also working with the children once a week, providing kids church and fun activities for them. Please keep these camps in prayer as we work to help these families rebuild their lives.

What a blessing these camps will be. The church there is doing an amazing job - it's hard work, so please keep them in your prayers. Hope this gives you all a better idea of what we did on the trip and the work that is continuing to go on down there.
