Story from vacation - finally!

We had a wonderful vacation in Florida with my parents and sister and brother-in-law! One afternoon, we had gone back to our hotel room to rest and put Elijah down for his nap. So, Steve and I were hanging out in our room and we decided to go out our balcony to enjoy the outdoors while Elijah continued to nap. We were in and out of the balcony for quite a while - occassionally going in to check on E (he was in a part of the room that you couldn't see from the balcony AND the curtains to the balcony were closed so that it would be dark for him to sleep). Steve and I were out there and could see Jess and Justin from our balcony - they had gotten coffee and were sitting on a patio down below. I decided that I better go back in and get ready for the evening. By this time, E had been asleep for about 2 hours. I get up from my chair and go to the door that goes back into the room and it wouldn't open. My heart stopped - literally. Steve got up and thought that maybe I just wasn't opening it right or something and he discovered that indeed we were locked out of our room. Now, we are pretty high up in the hotel, the curtains are closed so we can't see into our room and our baby was asleep in the room. All kinds of scary thoughts began to run through my head - did someone come in our room and lock us out on the balcony and take our child? (The balcony could ONLY be locked from the inside of the hotel room - it was a deadbolt lock). Steve and I were frightened. Thankfully, Steve had his cell phone out there with him, so he called my mom and asked her to get someone up to their room ASAP. I was trying to get Jess & Justin's attention, too - but it wasn't working. I finally called her and told her the same thing - you see, we then remembered that Steve had double/triple locked our hotel room door, so we didn't know if they could get in. And, the scariest part was that we can't see a thing. At least the face that Steve had put the extra locks on the door made me relax a little - the thought that someone had come in to get him, had lessened. But, the fact remained that we had been locked out from the inside somehow. What in the world? It just didn't make sense. I don't think I can express in words what I was feeling - but to be separated like that from your child and you don't know how you're going to get to him, was the worst feeling I have ever had. My mom called us back and said that Security and my dad were outside of our room trying to get in - so we felt better knowing that someone was doing something! Meanwhile, we continued to try to do anything to get in the door - it wouldn't budge. By this time, Steve wanted someone to bring him a hammer - he was getting in no matter what it took. I am sure not too much time had passed up until now, but every second felt like an hour. We stopped for a moment and prayed - putting our trust in God that He would get us out of this situation. FInally, we hear something and see my dad open the balcony door! I run to find Elijah. He was there - safe and sound. All my emotions started coming over me and I began to cry. I took E in my arms and just held on to him. Evidentally the security people told us this had never happened before and that the door must have somehow locked behind us - but again, they had NEVER seen this happen. The weird thing is that when we first got to the hotel, Steve had a bad feeling about the door (for no reason - it had been working fine). But, I don't think I will ever go out on a balcony without leaving something holding the door open now. I am just so thankful that Elijah was okay and that they got us back in to him. The Lord has His hand upon us and helped us get through this situation. Later that evening, a technician/repair guy came by to take a look at the balcony door and he fixed it. But, we never let that door close on us again!
